Back

A gateway in one of the inner walls of Beaumaris Castle.
The castle design features a series of ring walls. It was the last castle Edward I built as part of a number of castles in Wales whereby he subjected Wales to English rule. The castle was never finally completed due to Edward running out of funds. Edward saw his kingship role as that of being the conquering hero rather than one of careful stewardship. He was in any case running out of time at this stage, there was still Scotland and France to conquer.
