Dolbadarn Castle
The remains of Dolbadarn Castle build by Llywelyn ap Iorwerth (Llywelyn the Great) sometime before 1230 and once the stronghold of the princes of Gwynedd. The prince stood out against the might of their English neighbours until the castle was besieged by an overwhelming force lead by Earl of Pembroke, and in 1282 (the year of Llywelyn's death), Dolbadarn was seized by the English army. Within two years, the castle was abandoned, to be further assaulted for its building stone and timber beams used in the construction of Edward I’s castle at nearby Conwy.
