Llanfyllin is a small town in mid Wales, lying on the River Cain by the Berwyn Mountains. The town is known for its holy well, dedicated to Saint Myllin.

Llanfyllin has a long and interesting history. It is set in a deep valley, surrounded by gently rolling hills that are typical of Mid-Wales. Tradition alludes to Saint Myllin, the 7th century Celt, as the first cleric to baptise by total immersion in his holy well. The town is named after him and the church is also dedicated to St Myllin.

Llanfyllin was granted its charter as a borough in 1293 by Llewelyn ap Gruffydd ap Gwenwynwyn, Lord of Mechain and shares with Welshpool the distinction of being one of only two Welsh Boroughs to receive their charters from native Welsh rulers, which gives Llanfyllin the unique privilege of calling itself a Town with its own elected Mayor.

The town held celebrations throughout 1993 to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the granting of the charter and a large tapestry of the town's interesting and historic buildings was created which can be viewed at the Parish Church of St Myllin.

The ancient town with a population of approximately 1,200 has considerable architectural variety. Its charm is its beautiful setting in the Cain Valley and it makes an ideal centre for exploring Mid-Wales, Snowdonia and the Welsh Coast.

The show of azaleas and rhododendrons during May and early June in the grounds of Bodfach Hall, just outside the town, is one of the finest in Wales. The town generally takes a keen interest in flowers and has received several top awards in the Wales in Bloom competition over the years.

Llanfyllin is also home to Y Dolydd or the 'Llanfyllin Union Workhouse' that featured on the BBC Restoration programme. In July 2005 it hosted a festival with bands from all over the country playing alongside local bands including the world-renowned Chumbawamba and local bands such as No Disgrace and Strap the Button.
