FUNDING CRISIS
OK, I’ll come clean,

Welsh Icons receives no funding from any body (government or otherwise) whatsoever. It is run from a bedsit in Cardiff, has no employees and mostly relies on the Editors Job Seeker’s Allowance (that’s Welfare for visitors from the Sates). With over 1,000,000 hits a month (yes, that’s a million!) and nearly 5,000 pages, the site has become a victim of its own success.

I have tried without success for the last year to secure funding for the site which is used as the first port of call for those wanting to know more about Wales and the Welsh (try typing ‘welsh things’ into Google), and it is only due to the generosity of a handful of sponsors (see Our Sponsors) that the site has managed to survive.

Due to the bandwidth consumed by our many visitors, I can only manage to fund the site up to the middle of March 2008. If no funding or sponsorship becomes available the site will then have to either close or at best cease growing.

As a politically agnostic, independent site which I know is valued by its many users both young and old, which solely tries to promote Wales, Welsh History, Welsh Culture, the Geography of Wales and encourage tourism, I’m sure that you would agree that closure of the site would be a great loss to our nation.

Please take a moment to read the few paragraphs below to see how YOU can help.

May I also take this opportunity to thank the many talented photographers who have allowed us to use their work on this site.

This may sound silly - more visitors = more bandwidth = Higher Cost,
but somebody may be able to see the potential of the site and be able to help in some way
