Delta Street Regeneration

Works to transform a busy shopping area into a focal point for the Cowbridge Road East district centre have been completed.

The scheme is the latest of a series of improvements in the local area undertaken through the Councils ‘Cowbridge Road East Regeneration Strategy’.

The scheme along Delta Street was designed to address problems with traffic dominance, illegal parking and poor accessibility.  The transformation to the street has been made possible by closing a slip-lane off Cowbridge Road East which has allowed the pedestrian area to be extended and improved.

The improvements have included repaving the area around the shops, planting trees, new cycle stands and improved lighting.    A re-organised traffic layout means that the space is now less dominated by cars.

A bespoke public seat was designed and constructed by local artists Andrew Rowe and Simon Fenoulhet. The seat has lighting underneath to provide a feature both during the day and evening.

Pupils from nearby Radnor Primary School were also involved in a model-making workshop with the artists to think of creative ideas for public seating.

Cardiff Councillor Judith Woodman, Executive Member for communities, housing and social justice said: “This scheme provides a focal point for the area and promotes Cowbridge Road East as a vibrant and accessible centre”.
