Forum Provides Food for Thought

Environmental health officers from Cardiff Public Protection held the first Food, Safety and Health Business Forum at St Mellons Community Education Centre.
The Forum provided an opportunity for enforcement officers and food businesses to discuss current issues relating to compliance with food safety and health and safety law in an informal environment.
Owners and managers from local food business trading in Rumney, Llanrumney and St Mellons enjoyed a range of topical presentations including the national food hygiene rating scheme; E. coli O157 cross-contamination guidance; slips, trips and falls and ladder safety.
Of particular value were presentations from Frydays Fish & Chip Emporium and Greggs plc who discussed how they had achieved good food hygiene ratings and the positive impact this had had on their business.
Executive Member for Environment, Councillor Margaret Jones, said: “Our priority at all times is to ensure that best practices are shared by food businesses in Cardiff and that any potential risk to public health is minimised. As a result of the positive feedback from the businesses involved, more forums are in the process of being organised on a regional basis.”
