Over 2,700 of Denbighshire’s council houses will have seen improvements by May 2012 as the Council works towards ensuring that its properties meet the Wales Quality Housing Standard.

The work has included replacement kitchens, new bathrooms, rewiring work, modern central heating systems introduced, as well as replacement windows and doors.

The final programme of works is due to commence from April, with the first part of the work involving internal improvements to properties in the Denbigh and Henllan areas, with phases two and three later this year seeing work carried out in rural villages and towns , including Ruthin, Corwen and Llangollen.

Councillor David Thomas, Cabinet Lead Member with responsibility for housing, said: “As part of the improvement programme we have completed a large number of bathroom adaptations in our sheltered properties, to allow residents to stay in  their homes and lead more independent lives.

“Wer are also improving the energy efficiency of our homes by installing energy saving light bulbs as part of our rewiring programmes and installing loft and cavity wall insulation after each property has been fully improved.

Peter McHugh, Denbighshire’s Head of Housing Services, said: “Tenant satisfaction remains excellent, with satisfaction ratings of 90% plus on each of the last 5 improvement contracts. Tenants are very pleased with the works we have carried out and we are very pleased by the way in which the improvement programme has been utilised to provide much needed jobs, skills and opportunities for local people.”
