Sunny skies and dizzying displays made this year’s Rhyl Air Show a fly-away success, organisers said today.

Crowds of more than 60,000 lined the Promenade at Rhyl to see the World famous Red Arrows perform a breathtaking display over the magnificent shoreline of Rhyl Beach.

Today, delighted Denbighshire County Council’s Events Officer, Sian Davies, said: “The feedback we have had has been incredibly positive.  People travelled from across the country to see this year’s show and we did our best  to please all, and there’s not doubt we did that this weekend!

The World famous Red Arrows aerobatic team painted the skies the colour of the Union Flag, while the RAF Falcons Freefall Parachute Team performed a daredevil jump.

Other highlights included the Yakovlevs display team, Breitling wing walkers, various aerobatic displays, Lancaster, Spitfire and the Douglas Skyraider.

On the ground the young and young at heart climbed into cockpits of planes, while fun fair rides and charity and trade stalls proved popular.

Councillor David Thomas, Cabinet Lead Member for Regeneration and Tourism, said: “I attended the event on both days and it was superb.

“To watch the stunning displays and to see the many thousands of people flocking to Rhyl and enjoying our beautiful coastline is something that will stay in people’s minds for a long time.

“I would like to congratulate everyone who took part in the event and Sian who organised it – it was truly excellent!”

“The town centre was buzzing and I’m sure this will have been beneficial to the whole town and the local economy.”
