A Chance to Create Sandy Sea Creatures

Aug 24th, 2009 | By | Category: Children / Young People, Education, Environment, Gwynedd

What could you create out of sand? A gigantic jellyfish, a perfect porpoise, or maybe a super sea turtle? You will have the chance to create any creature during a special event held on Aberdyfi beach.

The theme is marine biodiversity (life within our seas) and the only limit is your imagination. So come along and join Gwynedd Council’s Biodiversity team at Aberdyfi for an afternoon of sand sculpture and art on Sunday, 30th August. Experience of building sand castles is an advantage. There is no age limit, but children must be accompanied by an adult. If you’re artistic enough, you might even win a prize!

Alison Hargrave, Special Areas of Conservation Officer with Gwynedd Council, said:

“This fun event for all the family is a great way to get out and enjoy some of the wonderful beaches Gwynedd has to offer. If you feel the muse calling, or even if you just fancy having a go at sculpting your favourite sea creature, come along to Aberdyfi beach and join in the fun.”

Look for signs on the beach, the team will be there from 2:30pm and judging will take place at 4:30pm. Remember your bucket and spade and lots of imagination!

This event has been organised by Gwynedd Council to celebrate Welsh Wildlife. For more information visit www.penllynarsarnau.co.uk or contact Alison Hargrave, Special Area of Conservation Officer with Gwynedd Council on 01286 679495 or e-mail: info@penllynarsarnau.co.uk
