Millar: Labour must rethink Welsh NHS cuts

May 25th, 2011 | By | Category: Health, Politics

Commenting on claims by the King’s Fund that Wales is facing the deepest cuts of any nation of the UK, Darren Millar AM, Shadow Minister for Health, said:

“This is further proof that Labour’s plans to cut the health budget will damage our National Health Service and put frontline services at risk.

“During the recent election campaign, Welsh Conservatives warned Labour of the impact NHS cuts would have on the delivery of vital services.  We remain the only party committed to protecting the NHS budget in real terms.

“Wales is already failing to keep up with other parts of the UK in terms of improvements in ambulance response times, stroke services and cancer services.

“If Labour Ministers continue with their NHS cuts plan, we will face the unenviable task of trying to raise standards to catch up with those in other parts of the UK with less money.

“The Welsh Labour Government must now look urgently at its budget priorities and pledge to protect the health budget in real terms.”
