March 15 will see the reopening of a transformed area in Abergavenny that creates a vibrant link between the future livestock market development and the town centre.

Brewery Yard has been under construction for 17 months and contractors are completing resurfacing in the car park to enable the market to return.

Bob Greenland, Cabinet Member for regeneration at Monmouthshire County Council, said: “The Brewery Yard area is now a functional space that will be the setting for many town centre events that will be enjoyed by resident and visitors.

“The site has new toilets in a building inspired in design by the former brewery building that occupied part of the site until demolition in 1960.  The building also has a lease opportunity for a cafe/kiosk building.

“We’ve incorporated artwork features around the site: barrel structures, artwork copings and ‘frieze’ give visitors a ‘sense of place’.  The community can be proud of their involvement in the design of sculptured features and composition of poetry.

“Some details will need to be completed after reopening, but progress is sufficient to expect the area will be a hub of activity for spring activities and markets.”
