Monmouthshire County Council is aiming to help sightseers and encourage more visits to the area by seeking the views of residents on tourism signs in a number of the county’s historic towns and villages.  Included within the consultation are Abergavenny, Caldicot, Chepstow, Monmouth, Caerwent, Magor, Raglan and Usk.

Recognising that satisfied customers will recommend the county to others it has commissioned consultants Cotyledon CIC to improve signage for visitors; one of five elements of activity which comprise the ‘Welcome Monmouthshire’ project funded through the Rural Development Plan for Wales.

During October and November, Cotyledon carried out an audit of visitor signage in Abergavenny, Caldicot, Chepstow and Monmouth comprising a conditions survey of signs, a digital image of each sign for inclusion in the council’s web-based mapping system and a brief report of the overall feel and presentation of the towns.  Caerwent, Magor, Raglan and Usk have now been included in the survey and consultation has been extended to 8th February 2012.

Jan Walsh, Project Manager, Cotyledon CIC said: “It is understood much work is being carried out locally and we wish to complement this with the audit and not duplicate work that is already being undertaken.  We are keen to include the wider community in helping to inform the work of the council’s tourism team and would be grateful for your views”.
