Coleg Gwent’s City of Newport Campus has been awarded the Careers Wales Mark for supporting students with a quality Careers and the World of Work education programme.

The award, which recognises continuous quality improvement in provision of Careers and the World of Work guidance to 14-19 year-old students, was presented to the campus during National Careers Week.

Working towards the award, the campus undertook an audit of Careers and World of Work provision.  In collaboration with Careers Wales, Heads of Schools and Learner Services at the campus gathered views of students and staff, evaluated information and implemented improvements.

“City of Newport Campus should be rightly proud of achieving the Careers Wales Mark,” said Vivienne Lewis of Careers Wales.

“The campus demonstrated strong links with a wide range of employers, schools, HE establishments and local community groups, whilst students feel well supported by the campus strategies and hold the Head of Learner Services in high regard.

“Careers and the world of work has a high profile on the campus as a compulsory module for all students, and tutors work collaboratively to ensure an engaging and diverse student experience.  This was reflected in the very positive feedback we received.”

Gary Handley, City of Newport Campus Director, said: “It’s a huge achievement to have been recognised for the Careers Wales Mark.

“We hope to build on our success and to continue support students with the highest quality advice and guidance.”

Coleg Gwent’s other campuses are also working towards achieving the Careers Wales Mark Award.
