Millar: Conwy Council tax bombshell

Feb 24th, 2012 | By | Category: Conwy, Politics

Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has expressed his ‘grave disappointment’ at Conwy Council’s decision to increase council tax by 4%.

The decision means the council is implementing one of the biggest council tax rises in Wales.

Local residents, who are already struggling with rising utility bills, will now be hit hard by a fresh and needless pressure on pockets.

Despite UK Government money being available to freeze council tax in Wales, the Welsh Government have decided not to use this to help hard pressed households.

“It is a grave disappointment that Conwy Council was unable to implement a council tax freeze.

“Unlike councils in England, they are not being supported by the Welsh Government to ease the pressure on hard working residents.

“With household bills for energy and groceries rising, it is a great shame that hard pressed Conwy council taxpayers will not be helped in these difficult economic times”
