Restoration works at Domesday church

Lesley Griffiths, AM for Wrexham, has visited All Saints’ Church, Gresford to see restoration work on the 14th Century tower funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, CADW, and WREN.
She was invited to All Saints’ by Sue Kelly, Member of the Parochial Church Council and project administrator on behalf of the Church.
The earliest mention of a church at Gresford is in the Domesday Book of 1086, and the origins of the current tower are 14th century. All Saints’ Church is one of the finest Perpendicular churches in Wales and its bells are ranked as one of the Seven Wonders of Wales.
“All Saints’ Church is a hugely important and historically signific ant building – not just to Gresford and Wrexham but on a national level too. It is essential this restoration work takes place to ensure the tower is protected for future generations,” Ms Griffiths said.
“It was fascinating to see for myself and have explained directly from the experts, the precise work that is being carried out on the tower. I am delighted that Welsh Assembly Government money, via CADW, has been set aside to fund this work to one of our national treasures.”
