Shadow Minister for Equality Mohammad Asghar has paid tribute to the players involved in the upcoming Fightmaster Cup in Chepstow, a forerunner tournament to the Ryder Cup for one-armed golfers.

The three-day competition takes place at Chepstow’s St Pierre country club between the 10th and 12th of September.

Mr Asghar, who represents South Wales East, said: “I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all the players involved in this year’s Fightmaster Cup ahead of the tee off on Friday.

“As the world awaits the Ryder Cup to get underway in October, we should also focus on the inspirational achievements of the players involved in the competition in the face of such barriers”.

Commenting on the 2010 Ryder Cup, with the start of the tournament only weeks away, Mr Asghar added: “To have one of the biggest sporting events on Earth in Newport is just fantastic.

“The Welsh Assembly Government must take every opportunity to ensure the Ryder Cup leaves a lasting sporting legacy on Wales for many years to come”.
