Mohammad Asghar, Regional Assembly Member for South Wales East, has urged the Welsh Assembly Government to work towards improving the provision of rail services for Chepstow.
The South Wales East AM highlighted how “a recent survey in the Chepstow area found that a regular, hourly rail service without gaps was the top priority for passengers in that area”.
Speaking in the Senedd on Wednesday, Mr Asghar said: “Presently, there are a number of two-hour gaps … throughout the day”.
He asked the Deputy First Minister and Minister for the Economy and Transport whether he would “look favourably upon improving rail provision for the people of Chepstow” – noting how “a national shortage of rolling stock” had been highlighted as an obstacle to improving services and how that situation was set “to be addressed with four train units on loan to First Great Western due to be returned to Arriva Trains”.
The Shadow Minister for Equality also asked the Minister about the timescale of an assessment appraisal being carried out by the South East Wales Transport Alliance which focuses on service provision in Chepstow.
