Essential road repairs may lead to delay

A major road resurfacing programme is taking place in Treforest this weekend as part of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s pledge to rectify pothole damage on the highways.

Earlier this year the Council’s Cabinet Members targeted up to an additional £400,000 to tackle the significant increase in potholes and other erosion of the highway which resulted from the worst Winter weather conditions experienced in approximately 30 years.

One of the roads to have suffered weather damage is Park Street, Treforest and the resurfacing programme will take place on Sunday (June 27th) in an effort to minimise disruption to the public

Traffic will be controlled by temporary signals and whilst every effort will be made to expedite the works, some delays are possible on the main carriageway through the village.

Access to Park Street will be severely restricted during the works and residents have been informed of the essential repair works.

To further minimise disruption, the road will be excavated and re-laid in one day, with additional routine maintenance operations being carried out as the work progresses.

The length of Park Street affected will be from the Otley Arms Public House to the Post Office

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, Customer Care and Emergency Planning Cllr Andrew Morgan explained: “We made a commitment to invest additional resources into our highway infrastructure this year due to the significant impact the adverse weather throughout January and February had on our roads.

“This is the latest in an ongoing programme of works in the county borough which once again illustrates the Council delivering on the pledges it has made.

“We understand that the works being carried out at Treforest this weekend will effect motorists but we hope they remain patient with us as we endeavour to complete the scheme as quickly as possible.”
