A specialist home proved that being in a care home does not prevent you having a really rocking good time.

When Mold rock guitarist Dan Peeling’s mum heard that Penybryn care home in Wrexham  would welcome some original entertainment, Dan and fellow band members of Luminova were only too happy to oblige.

Penybryn, which opened more than four years ago is part of the Pendine Park care organisation, and is a centre of excellence for younger people with neurological problems caused by brain injury or conditions such as multiple sclerosis or stroke.

So Dan, Tony Nicholson, also of Mold, Tom Evans of Deeside and singer Hadib Hoxworth, originally from Runcorn but now living in Bolton, served up their mix of hard rock and some rap, at a gig in the home.

“Dan works for the National Grid, I work as a salesman and the other two are at university,” said Hadib.

“They heard a track I had done on the internet and we all had a good chat, they invited me down for a practice session and we got on well. I think Dan’s mother knew someone at the nursing home and asked if we would do a gig and we were happy to help out.”

According to Pendine Park activities manager Gerry Humphreys, the band had gone down a storm with the residents.

She said: “The lads were very loud, but very good! It was a real tonic for the residents who really enjoyed the concert.”

The group will be in a recording studio soon and are putting together their website. In the meantime they can be found through Facebook under their old name of Titanium.
